Let Me Fly High

Tensegrity Helicoid – Space Time Existence Biennial Architecture Exhibition

Exhibition in 16th International Biennale in European Culture Center Palazzo Mora, VENICE, Italy, 2018

The participation of the Future Structures Studio research group, coordinated by Professor Katerina Liapi of the University of Patras, took place at the invitation of the European Culture Center. This involvement centered around a spatial construction based on innovative research, the form of which was generated using algorithmic design methods.

The design and construction of the spatial structure were founded on extensive research into cable-stayed self-supporting structures [U.S. Patent No. 6,901,714, “Tensegrity Unit, Structure and Method for Construction,” inventor: K. A. Liapi]. The chosen morphological solution emerged from recent academic research funded by “Karathodoris” program.

The application of cutting-edge technology enabled the rapid assembly of the structure from foldable structural units. A preliminary test assembly was conducted at the University of Patras, followed by the transport of the structure in a collapsed form and its swift re-deployment and installation at Palazzo Mora. The implementation of the spatial construction was carried out within the framework of a workshop, in which students and graduates from the department participated. Most of these individuals are members of the Future Structures Studio research group.
